Service Overview

Hyaluronic acid fillers are injected below the skin surface to plump up or fill in static facial wrinkles and folds, replacing age-related volume loss in the face and hands. Dermal fillers are an injectable gel, made from the same naturally occurring sugar called hyaluronic acid found within the tissues of living cells. It also combines with the skin’s elastin and collagen, contributing to the elasticity and structure of the skin. Fillers are a valuable tool when treating signs of ageing or enhancing features of the face. The aim is to restore natural facial contours by adding volume to the skin and lips, giving a more youthful appearance.

What To Expect

Your treating practitioner will discuss options and areas for treatment, ensuring the best results for you. After a numbing cream is applied for one hour, the fillers are injected in a manner that will give the optimal aesthetic improvement to the area of concern. Maximum improvement following injectable fillers is seen at 1 month.

How To Prepare

Avoid receiving a COVID vaccination for two weeks prior to treatment.Ideally, avoid taking any non-prescription medication that may thin the blood, such as anti-inflammatories, for 2 weeks prior to treatment, as these will increase risk of bruising. Do not wear make-up, including lipstick and mascara, or sunscreen on your face, the day of treatment.

Aftercare

Immediately after treatment you will be asked to stay and ice the treated area for 10 minutes, to limit bruising. Prior to leaving the clinic, we recommend applying sunscreen with an SPF 50+ or greater, to the treated area. Wear a hat and/or cover the treated area also, if in the sun. You may shower/bathe as normal, using regular products. Make-up can be worn immediately after treatment. If required, the treated area can be shaved gently the following day. Alcohol, strenuous exercise and activity should be avoided for the rest of the day.

The Benefits

  • Helps soften or add volume to areas with unwanted fine lines or less volume than desired.
  • Results can last between 3 months and 2 years.
  • Botulinum toxin type A injections can further improve results, if recommended by your treating practitioner

Before and After

Are there follow up reviews or treatments recommended?

Follow-up consultation is recommended after one month if a greater degree of improvement is desired at this point. Patients are always welcome to have a review if they have concerns at any time.

What does this treatment feel like?

Discomfort varies among individuals and depends on the product being used and the area being treated. For most patients, there is minimal discomfort during the injections, having had topical anaesthetic cream and oral analgesia 1 hour prior to treatment. Ice is also used during the treatment to assist in managing any discomfort and to limit bruising. The product also has a small amount of anaesthetic within it, which further limits discomfort. It’s our goal for patients to feel minimal discomfort during treatment.

What does hyaluronic acid filler injection treatment cost?

You will initially be seen by our experienced cosmetic physicians and nurses who will discuss your concerns and prepare a comprehensive treatment plan.

The cost of dermal filler treatment is dependent on the area being treated. As a guide, prices start at $500.

What are the possible risks or complications of vascular laser treatments?

As with any treatment, some risk does exist, though these are all reported to be temporary and include (but are not limited to):

  • Bruising at the site of injection, resolving within 1 week (50% of patients)
  • Haematoma (large bruise) at injection site, resolving within 2 weeks (<2% of patients)
  • Pain at injection site, managed by topical anaesthetic cream before the treatment and ice packs afterwards.
  • Swelling at the site of treatment, resolves within 5-7 days
  • Delayed swelling and firmness of the skin. This may develop later and may last a few weeks.
  • Lumpiness. May develop at the time of injection or several weeks later, and may last a few weeks.
  • Bluish discolouration of the skin.
  • Injury to small blood vessels, which is very rare, and may involve scabbing and scarring.
  • Rare and isolated cases of vision abnormalities have been reported when treatment involves areas around the eyes, nose and glabella. If this happens at the time of injection, immediate treatment is given using hyaluronidase, as well as continued management as needed.
  • Very rare risk of cerebrovascular accident (stroke) from injection into a blood vessel.
  • Muscle disorders, ischaemia and necrosis – rare
  • Skin changes to the treated area, including reduction or increase in skin tissue – rare.
  • Infection – very rare
