Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers can be used to enhance aging skin, address wrinkles and add volume.

What are dermal fillers?

We choose to use dermal fillers at Neutral Bay Laser & Dermatology Clinic which are made up of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar found in our skin which provides the skin with both volume and hydration.  Hyaluronic acid can bind many times its own weight in water, however, as we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin reduces, causing loss of facial volume, wrinkling and an older appearance. Lifestyle factors such as sun exposure and smoking can accelerate this hyaluronic acid depletion.

Both volume loss can be addressed and wrinkles softened by the skilled use of dermal fillers. We use a range of dermal fillers which contain different concentrations of hyaluronic acid and differ in the way that the hyaluronic acid molecules are cross-linked. This enables us to tailor treatments depending on the areas being treated.

What happens at a dermal filler treatment?

Our most important aim at Neutral Bay Laser & Dermatology Clinic is to achieve a soft and natural result for our patients.

Your filler journey starts with an assessment by your treating doctor.  During this consultation, your concerns will be discussed and a treatment plan agreed, outlining the volume and location of fillers to help you achieve your optimal outcome.

Our most popular areas for dermal fillers are:

  • Cheeks
  • Nasolabial lines
  • Lip enhancement and smoker’s lines
  • Prejowl area to soften the jawline
  • Temples to reduce the hollowing often found
  • Forehead creases
  • Jawline enhancement
  • Chin crease
  • Backs of hands to address loss of volume and prominent veins

After your assessment, numbing cream is usually applied to your skin prior to your treatment. During your treatment, ice packs will be used if needed, to minimise any discomfort. After your treatment, ice packs can be applied to your skin to minimise swelling and bruising.

It is advisable to avoid alcohol and heavy exercise for the remainder of the day after your treatment.

The filler will last approximately 6 months to 2 years, depending on the viscosity and location of the filler and your metabolism.
