Spring and your Skin
4 September 2018
With the warm Spring weather just around the corner (we hope!), it’s important to keep your skin top of mind as we move through this transition.
Here are our 5 top tips for great Spring skin.
The sun can still burn, even if it isn’t hot
You’ve heard it said a thousand times…..you may have even heard us say it a thousand times…..but sunscreen should be your #1 skin care product. As we start to bare our arms and legs after months of hiding them under warm layers, skin is usually at its most pale and sun-sensitive. That means sunscreen is a definite must.
Get your regular skin check
Depending on your age, skin checks should be conducted as often as once a year. The fairer your complexion and the older you are, the more you need to keep those checks up-to-date. As we start to peel of our layers of clothing, it’s a great time to get marks, moles, lumps and bumps checked. Any dermatologist can do a thorough skin check for you but we’d love to see you at Neutral Bay Laser & Dermatology – why not make your appointment today by calling our recpetionists on (02) 9553 9522!
Start or touch up your laser hair removal
Nothing is more frustrating than being surprised by the first hot day of the season and having to stay in your jeans because, well, you just didn’t get time to shave your legs! If you’ve not tried laser hair removal, now’s a great time to start, as notable hair reduction takes at least 2-3 sessions, which should get you starting to see results by Summer. If you’re a veteran of this process, you’ll know skin often needs a touch up treatment, and the start of Spring is the perfect time to get those errant hairs out of the way.
You don’t have to live with back acne
It’s not a common topic of discussion and, for those who suffer from back acne, often warmer months are a constant reminder of the back-revealing clothing you don’t want to wear, the beach days you avoid and the social stigma you feel because of it. But you don’t have to live with back acne! There are numerous treatments available and a consult with our dermatologist will give you all the options so you can determine which is right for you. They include several oral medication options, Kleresca biophotonic treatments and potentially surgical options. Need more info? We wrote a more in-depth blog on this topic here.
It’s not a spring allergy, it’s a drought on your skin
While the drought seems to be breaking in Sydney, we’re not out of the official drought yet and certainly most of NSW is still in the grip of this incredibly dry year. Cold and dry conditions wreak havoc on skin and we’re noticing many people beginning to develop skin that’s itchy, dry and irritated. Eczema is also on the rise thanks to this weather combination. The answer is to moisturise! A great quality moisturise is a fantastic investment in your skin, not only feeling softer and more supple, and improving visible quality and reducing the signs of ageing, but it will also help prevent skin reactions in this cold, dry climate. Our clinic’s own skin care range, Radiance Skin Care, has several moisturising options to suit all skin types and has been developed using the best scientific understanding of ingredients and effectiveness available. Come into the clinic for a personal consult to determine the best products for you, or purchase in-clinic or at our online store here.
