What are PPPs?

Pearly Penile Papules, or PPPs, are a skin condition affecting the head of the penis. They are small, smooth bumps  usually skin or cream coloured, hence the name “pearly”.

Although they are quite common, many men experiencing PPPs worry they have an infection. However, PPPs have not been contracted through intimate contact and cannot be passed on to others.

Are PPPs a dangerous medical condition?

PPPs represent no medical or sexual health risk. As they are not contracted or transmissible, there is no need for sexual partners to be concerned or avoided.

However, for obvious reasons, PPPs can be cosmetically troubling, both to patients and their partners.

Treatments for PPPs

PPPs can be removed with a gentle laser that flattens the skin and delivers a good cosmetic improvement . With the use of topical numbing cream the procedure is pain free and only takes about 20 minutes. While the thought of having a procedure like this can be confronting for patients, it is a routine treatment at our clinic so the staff will be able to put you at ease. Patients should not hesitate in seeking treatment if they are bothered by their PPPs.

Important things to know about this treatment

Because of the potential embarrassment of seeking medical advice and treatment, many men with PPPs turn to lotions and potions, home remedies and other internet advice. Not only are these likely to provide no improvement, they can potentially cause permanent scarring.
