Hyperhidrosis is a condition in which excessive sweating is experienced. The sweating can occur under the arms, on the palms of the hands and, occasionally, from other parts of the body.

While there is no medical concern with this condition, it can be very debilitating for those experiencing it.

Treatment for hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis can be treated with injections of the anti-wrinkle injections type A, to the affected area. This is a muscle relaxant which can slow the release of sweat. Treatments remain effective for approximately three months and can be administered under the arms, to the palms and to the face.

Costs and rebates for hyperhidrosis treatment

Some forms of hyperhidrosis attract a Medicare rebate. Patients considering this treatment should consult with their GP, in the first instance, to obtain a referral which is recognised by Medicare.

The cost of treatment is dependent on the size of the area being treated and, therefore, how much anti-wrinkle injections type A is required. You will be informed of the cost, and given other important information, in your initial consultation with our Dermatologist, in order to make an informed decision about whether this treatment is right for you.

If you are interested in treatment for hyperhidrosis, we suggest you obtain a referral to see our Dermatologist, Dr Terence Poon, from your GP. You will be required to consult with our Dermatologist, who will assess your suitability for this treatment and provide you with the information you need to make your decision. If treatment is to go ahead, you may be able to undergo treatment on the same day as your consult, but we cannot guarantee this. Please call our clinic to schedule your initial consult, on (02) 9953 9522.
