As busy mums, we all need a little “insider help” on the best ways to save time. In this blog, we outline some skin care hacks for busy mums that you may not have thought about, but which can really save you time in the long and short term.

1. Protection

Our #1 Skin Care Hack for Busy Mums is to protect your skin. Prevention is always better than a cure (and cheaper and less time consuming!)

This hack may not seem like a time saver at first, but from a long-term perspective, skin that has been protected from sun damage requires a lot less medical intervention, not to mention time spent trying to hide the effects of sun damage. And extra minute in the morning to apply 30+ or 50+ SPF to your face will pay big dividends in the years to come.

So don’t compromise because it seems like a hassle and the pay off is a long way away. You’ll thank us later, we promise!

2. Nutrition

Our #2 Skin Care Hack for Busy Mums is to feed your skin the nutrients it needs to look great.

We all know that eating a diet rich in a variety of fruit and vegetables is good for our overall health. But not many people realise that healthy skin is a key benefit of a healthy diet.

In particular, orange and red foods such as carrots, orange sweet potatoes, oranges, raspberries, red capsicum and watermelon can really give your skin a great glow. These foods contain carotenoids and lycopenes, which can add a gentle tint to the skin.

But, as with most things, too much can be counter-productive. Carrotenemia is a condition that creates orange coloured skin and can result from eating too many carotenoids. So moderation is key, but ensure you’re eating these foods regularly.

3. Laser Hair Removal

The #3 Skin Care Hack for Busy Mums involves investing a little more time now for long term time saving.

Almost every woman spends time removing unwanted hair from faces, arms, arm pits, legs and bikini lines.

While in the short term, shaving or hair removal creams can be quick and convenient at-home solutions, in the long term, solutions that offer permanent hair removal can prove much more time economic!

Laser hair removal can achieve significant results in as little as 3 or 4 sessions and can achieve near-permanent hair removal for many patients over a course of 6-8 treatments.

And not only will it mean less time spent removing hair in the long run, but it can also reduce issues associated with hair removal, such as rashes or folliculitus, which themselves can take time to deal with.

4. Blemish Removal

Our #4 Skin Care Hack for Busy Mums is about improving imperfections so you feel good in the skin you’re in.

Most women spend time each day covering up blemishes on their face, neck and decolletage. These may be sun damage spots, acne or acne scars, birth marks, blood vessels or unwanted freckles and moles, and more.

Laser dermatology offers a range of solutions for the removal or reduction of all of these skin blemishes and can free up significant amounts of time for those who carefully apply make up to camouflage or hide them.

While this falls into the category of more-time-now-less-time-later, we encourage you to explore whether a longer term approach could be worthwhile.

5. Skin Texture

Our #5 Skin Care Hack for Busy Mums is a secret skin improvement trick used by many a celebrity to get great looking skin – rejuvenate!

Many women spend more time applying more types of skin improving products as our skin ages. Where once a quick and light liquid foundation may have sufficed, now we apply concealer, primer, foundation, contouring accents, setting powder….the list goes on.

In the end, what we’re aiming to achieve is the impression of great skin texture – youthful, smooth and radiant.

These qualities can be improved through a range of rejuvenation techniques, from quick and simple chemical peels, or our tailored laser work in our Walter Nolan Multi Laser Procedures, to short term rejuvenation options from Kleresca or Picosure and our significant full face resurfacing treatments.

Understanding what rejuvenation options exist and when they may be right for you could end up saving you time trying to recreate texture with make up application.
